What are the causes of procrastination? These can vary from person to person, but let’s look at some of the more common ones.
- Fear of Failure – this can stop you in your tracks, especially if you are procrastinating about doing something you haven’t done before. You may fear that you won’t know how to do something, or even if you do know how, that you won’t be successful at it. Regarding starting a home based business, this is probably one of the main causes of procrastination. You want to be guaranteed that your business will be successful before you start it. While there are many ways to research the profit potential of a certain product, there are no guarantees of success. Sorry J
- Thinking You Have All the Time in The World – this is another common cause of putting something off. But especially with the way things are going today, and with businesses declaring bankruptcy and closing their doors, you may not have as much time as you think. When I saw a list of companies that were closing at least some of their locations, I couldn’t believe it. It seems to be happening so fast. So, you may not want to wait to start that business of yours.
- Thinking it has to be the “right time” – is there ever really a “right time?” While there may be better times than others to start a business, if you wait until all systems are go, you may be still waiting five years from now.
- Perfectionism – this can be an obstacle for many. If you can’t do it “perfectly” the first time, then you don’t want to do it at all. But the truth is, you will make mistakes and you will change some things as you go along. I’m talking from experience. We all go through that. The important thing is to start!
- Looking at the “whole.” If you are thinking about starting a business, you probably have a lot of questions. Don’t let yourself get overwhelmed. By taking one step at a time, it will seem much more doable.
