Are You Computer Challenged?

Baby boomers didn’t grow up with the computer as an extension of themselves, as kids do today.  By the time my kids were 8 or 9, they knew much more about the computer than I did.  I had figured out how to check my email, which I was quite proud of!  But that was about it.  Google was not a household name as it is today.  Want to know “anything?”  Just ask Google.

So, as baby boomers, you may be feeling a little behind the times.  Most people at least own a computer, and some have become quite good at searching for information on it.  But running an online business?  That’s where they start to feel inadequate.

You Can Do It!

I am here to tell you that if I can do it, so can you.  Like I already mentioned, I knew how to check my email, and by the time I started my business, I was searching on Google for home based business information.  But that is it.  Really.

You learn so much when you have to!  The incentive to learn came from my desire to work from home.  You know the old saying, “if you want something badly enough….”

I can now do some html coding (basic), write online newsletters, work with autoresponders, update my website, chat in forums and frequent social networks.  I am still no “whiz” when it comes to computers, but I can get around to where I need to be.  And, you know, I even enjoy it!  Our discussions around the supper table very often center around online business talk now, as my son and I both have an online business, and my husband is starting one up.

I learned it little by little, as I had need for something.  That’s the thing to remember.  You don’t need to learn everything tomorrow.  Take one thing at a time and tackle it.  Then move onto something else.  Break it down into bite-size pieces and learn as you go along.

Don’t think you’re ever too old to learn, or that you wouldn’t do well at something just because you haven’t done it in the past.  Learning will keep you young. You can learn and have fun doing it!
